Tariff for the Production and Use of Mills Archive Material
Introduction
The aim of the Mills Archive is to protect our collections and
make them available for public inspection free of charge. Our
Internet catalogue provides access to high quality images of
our catalogued material either at home, school or in Public
Libraries.
As the Trustees have invested a great deal of money to set
up our Internet catalogue, we have decided that the remainder
of our resources must be directed to conservation and cataloguing.
The Mills Archive Trust does not receive support from public
funds to cover its running costs, so we are obliged to charge
users the full cost of providing copies of material.
Our fees reflect the actual costs to us of processing a request
and are subject to regular review. They are similar to charges
by other institutions where some attempt is made to cover
the costs of materials and the time spent in handling requests.
We are totally dependent on volunteer labour and financial
donations from those interested in mills, so we invite users
not only to pay for the material they order but also consider
an additional donation to the running costs of the Archive.
Free Services
Researchers may search our Internet catalogue and examine
images free of charge. Simple queries that are emailed and
take less than 5 minutes to answer will be handled as rapidly
as possible. In addition visitors who make an appointment
will be able to inspect originals, browse our library and
use our catalogue at our Research Room in Reading.
Reproduction Costs
All requests for printed or high-resolution copies of material
will be subject to a charge to cover our costs. High-resolution
scans will be made from which we can provide photographic
prints. The quality of the print will depend on the state
of the original. We will not photocopy material. Receipt of
payment will entitle the purchaser to either a CD-ROM of the
high-resolution images or photographic prints of each individual
image. If both CD and prints are required an additional charge
of £2.00 per image will be made.
